Aubameyang scored twice as Marseille celebrated their first league win in three months

Marseille have announced that they will celebrate their first league win in three months after defeating Lyon on Sunday.

The victory was the club's first since February, when they lost to Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes. The result is a significant step towards re-establishing the team's status in the top flight and building momentum for the upcoming season.

The French champions are now looking forward to facing the likes of PSG and Real Madrid in the next two rounds of the Champions League group stages.

"We are very happy with this result," said manager Guus Hiddink. "We were able to play well throughout the game and we got some good goals from players who had been waiting for this moment."

The victory over Lyon marks a positive sign for the team, which has struggled recently. Despite losing to PSG in the last round of the Champions League, Marseille bounced back with a comfortable win against Monaco.

The win also comes ahead of the opening match of the new campaign against Arsenal on Saturday. With just one point separating them from third place, the clash between the two teams could be crucial for both sides' chances of promotion to the Premier League.

"The game against Arsenal is important," added Hiddink. "It's always exciting to face a strong opponent like Arsenal,Ligue 1 Express but it's also important to take care of our own game and not let any mistakes slip away."

Despite the win, Marseille still need to improve defensively if they want to progress further in the league. They conceded four goals in their previous match against Monaco, which was their worst performance in the competition so far.

However, manager Hiddink remains confident that the team can bounce back and continue their impressive form in the league.

"Although we didn't score many goals, we played really well and showed great teamwork," he said. "We're still working hard to improve our defensive performances, but I'm sure we'll get there."
